FARM TO TABLE

Baking bread from scratch, harvesting greens or produce from the garden, milking a cow and making butter are all part of this full day on the farm! Your students will learn first hand just how much goes into a meal and gain appreciation for the role of farms in everyday lives. Meals prepared for each program differ slightly depending on what is ready for harvest during each visit.

CHURN, TURN & LEARN

Back in 1852, life in New Hampshire was very different than it is today. Travel back in time and become a farm hand during this living History program. Learn to make rope, felt wool, grind corn and make bread, churn butter and brush the Belgian draft horses while experiencing New Hampshire’s farming history first hand in this exciting three hour program.

Dates: Sept. - Nov.
Attendance Limits: 30 students max
Program Length: 3 hour program
Fee: $8 per student/ $96 minimum

SNOWSHOE ADVENTURE

Get your students active during these long, dark months by bringing them out to the farm for a snowshoe adventure! Come explore on the Farm's own fleet of snowshoes and learn about winter ecology as you're guided through the forest by one of our instructors. Depending on the ability level of the group we may venture off the trail into the wild places unexplorable in summer in summer in search of animal tracks and other signs to interpret. Then return to the learning center to share your discoveries and warm up with a sweet treat! NOTE: Our snowshoes generally fit 2nd-5th graders, but younger students can still join us for our snow hikes!

OLD FASHIONED ICE HARVESTING

Your students will work as a team to cut and move blocks of ice out of our pond using antique tools that ice harvesters used long ago! They will learn the history of this traditional New England business, visit our ice harvesting tool exhibit, and learn about the amazing properties of ice. The ice-harvesting season is short, so sign up early for this one of a kind educational experience!

Dates: February 1-17
Attendance Limits: 30 students maximum
Program Length: 2 hour program
Fee: $6.00 per student / $90 minimum

MAPLE MADNESS

Experience the history and science behind the New England tradition of making maple syrup. Learn how to identify and tap a Sugar Maple, carry sap using a shoulder yoke, and see how sugaring has been done through the ages. See how we boil our sap on a tour through the Sugar House, take a horse drawn hayride through our sugar bush, and enjoy a maple syrup snack! Video and study guide available.

Dates: March 2-31
Attendance Limits: 60 students maximum
Program Length: 1-1/2 hour program
Fee: $6.00 per student/ $72.00 minimum

EXPLORING THE ROOTS OF OUR FOOD

Milk a cow by hand! Make and taste butter! Explore the dairy barn, learn about compost and plant a seed to take home as you learn about the fascinating cycle of dairy production through a rotation of fun and interactive activities.

Dates: Year round, except October and March

Program Length: 1-1/2 hour program
Fee: $6.00 per student/ $72.00 minimum
