Localvore Potluck
Sunday, September 9th
5:30-7:30pm
Greetings!
You are invited to join the community to celebrate the season and our abundance of local foods at the second annual Localvore Potluck. The bounty of the harvest will be the main attraction at this potluck event. Bring friends, family, and a dish that features one or several local ingredients. Enjoy music, community, and the good feeling of supporting our local agriculture. The Localvore Potluck will be held on Sunday, September 9th from 5:30-7:30pm at Stonewall Farm in Keene NH. For more information contact Tiffany at 352-5063 or tiffany@hannahgrimes.com. The event is sponsored by the Hannah Grimes Localvore Project; it is free and all are welcome!
The Hannah Grimes Localvore Project encourages people in the Monadnock Region to eat food grown within 150 miles in order to strengthen a thriving economy and vibrant community rooted in our local agricultural traditions. The project is dedicated to getting more people to eat more locally-grown food by giving them the tools they need to increase their use and enjoyment of local food.
Food travels an average of 1500 miles before it ends up on your dinner plate. The Localvore movement is working to change this statistic, to the benefit of our health, palate, local farms, the environment and the community. Now in its second year, The Hannah Grimes Localvore project is focused on building a network that makes it fun and easy to choose local foods. Sponsors for the 2007 Localvore Project include Cheshire Medical Center and Matteson and Associates.

Learn more about the story of maple sugaring in New England!
Each year Stonewall Farm invites about twenty teams of draft horses and their owners to race along a course set up in the woodlands behind the Learning Center. They gather sap from old-fashioned buckets, which are then dumped into a large holding tank at the end of the run. Teams are judged for technique, time and quantity, etc.
Besides watching the contest, you may wander among the gentle giants and experience the camaraderie of the teamsters and their respect for their animals. There will be an obstacle course in the sheep paddock for the horses and their drivers to demonstrate their skills. Visitors can tour the sugarhouse to learn more about the sugaring process and watch syrup being made - samples available - yummy! There are activities for everyone, young and old. Hay rides and pony rides are available. Lunch & refreshments will be served in the Community Room of the Learning Center, and maple syrup on ice cream can be purchased at the sugarhouse.
