Budding Explorers 2007/2008 Season
Stonewall Farm is pleased to continue our popular Budding Explorers program for the coming school year. This program is for young explorers, three years old and those who have just turned four. We will learn what a farm is, who lives on the farm, and why we need farms. We will explore what happens on a farm and the surrounding natural world during the four seasons of the year.
Budding Explorers is scheduled twice a month from September through May. Each program is two hours long from 9:30am to 11:30am. A healthy snack is provided and parents/grandparents are welcome to stay with their child for the program. The cost of the program is $15/child. Call today to sign up for one session or many! This is a program not to be missed!

Budding Explorers Schedule 2007/2008
This program is for very young explorers, three years old and those who have just turned four. We will learn what a farm is, who lives on the farm, and why we need farms. We will explore what happens on a farm, and the surrounding natural world, during the four seasons of the year.
Budding Explorers is scheduled for the first and third Fridays of the month from September through May, and is two hours long from 9:30am to 11:30am. A healthy snack is provided and parents are encouraged to stay and learn and play with their child for the program. (Each program will start with a morning circle, stories and or songs)
September 7th
Harvest Time
We will learn how to walk carefully in a garden, pick fresh vegetables and make a salad. Let’s see if the chickens like vegetables too!
September 21st
Everybody Has A Habitat! (Get to know the farm animals)
What animals live at the farm? Where do they live and what do they eat?
October 5th
Oh the Wonderful Fall Leaves!
Fall is a special time when we can go out and collect leaves and compare their shapes, sizes and colors. After our outside walk we will make leaf rubbings to take home. Let’s put some leaves in the compost for next years’ garden!
October 19th
Pumpkins!
Have you ever cut open a pumpkin to see what’s inside? We’ll do that and roast some seeds and make pumpkin soup.
November 2nd
Seeds, Animals and Winter
What animals store seeds for the winter? Comparing different seeds is fun and we can make beautiful seed art to take home.
November 16th
All About Chickens!
Can you guess what’s in the Touchy-Feely Box? It’s something that belongs to a chicken. One of our lovely chickens will visit us in the Program room, then, we will go outside to her home and look for eggs and find out what she eats.
December 7th
Our Evergreen Trees
Some trees keep their leaves in the winter. Did you know they are called Evergreens and have needles? Let’s examine some needles and find out how they feel and smell. The animals in the forest need some extra food this time of year so we will make little treats for them. The treats will look like holiday decorations hanging in the Evergreen trees!
December 21st
Holiday Fun on the Farm
Let’s make pine cone bird feeders with peanut butter and seeds, then it will be time for a hay/sleigh ride and to pet the horses!
January 4th
Winter on the Farm
We wear coats and hats in winter to keep warm. What do the farm animals have to keep them warm? Let’s take a trip to the barns and find out.
January 18th
Rabbits, Rabbits
We are going to have some fun making rabbit ears and tails and hop around and practice being rabbits before we visit with one of our rabbits in the Program room. Then we will visit the rabbit barn and find out how they keep warm and what they eat.
February 1st
Wildlife in Winter
On this winter day we will have some fun with puppets, Freddy the Fox, Bobby Beaver and Minnie the Mouse. We will sing some songs and go for a walk in the forest to visit our forest friends’ habitats.
February 15th
The Cows Are in the Barn
It’s time to visit the cows and heifers in the barn, milk a cow and make some yummy butter!
March 7th
Sugaring Time on the Farm
Let’s pretend to be a little seed and grow into a big, beautiful maple tree! We’ll check the sap buckets to see if the sap is running and make maple leaf art. It wouldn’t be sugaring time at the Farm without a tasty treat of ice cream and maple syrup!
March 21st
Birds and People Like Seeds!
We’ll match and group different seeds and go outside and put some seeds in our birdfeeder. Then we will make cookies with some seeds that people like too, yum!
