Budding Explorers

Stonewall Farm offers a popular program for 3 year olds and young 4s called the Budding Explorers. The Buds, as they are commonly called, meet on on the 1st and 3rd Fridays from September to May from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Through hands-on activities, songs, crafts and exploration, the children begin to form their first connections to the land and animals at Stonewall Farm. We explore the barns, gardens and the surrounding natural world during the four seasons of the year and build friendships and understanding along the way.

Parents, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome to stay and experience the program with their Bud, but are not required to attend.  We maintain a small group of no more than 10 children at each meeting, and provide an instructor and an assisant to guide the young explorers through the morning. The cost of the program is $15/child for each meeting and you may sign up for as few or as many sessions as you'd like.  Call today!  This is a program not to be missed!

Pre-registration is required.
To register, call Rebecca at 603-357-7278.

Oh the Wonderful Fall Leaves!

Fall is a special time when we can go out and collect leaves and compare their shapes, sizes and colors. After our outside walk we will make leaf rubbings to take home. Let’s put some leaves in the compost for next years’ garden!

Pumpkins!

Have you ever cut open a pumpkin to see what’s inside? We’ll do that and roast some seeds and make pumpkin soup.

Seeds, Animals and Winter

What animals store seeds for the winter? Comparing different seeds is fun and we can make beautiful seed art to take home.

November 16th

All About Chickens!

Can you guess what’s in the Touchy-Feely Box? It’s something that belongs to a chicken. One of our lovely chickens will visit us in the Program room, then, we will go outside to her home and look for eggs and find out what she eats.

December 7th

Our Evergreen Trees

Some trees keep their leaves in the winter. Did you know they are called Evergreens and have needles? Let’s examine some needles and find out how they feel and smell. The animals in the forest need some extra food this time of year so we will make little treats for them. The treats will look like holiday decorations hanging in the Evergreen trees!

December 21st

Holiday Fun on the Farm

Let’s make pine cone bird feeders with peanut butter and seeds, then it will be time for a hay/sleigh ride and to pet the horses!

January 4th

Winter on the Farm

We wear coats and hats in winter to keep warm. What do the farm animals have to keep them warm? Let’s take a trip to the barns and find out.

January 18th

Rabbits, Rabbits

We are going to have some fun making rabbit ears and tails and hop around and practice being rabbits before we visit with one of our rabbits in the Program room. Then we will visit the rabbit barn and find out how they keep warm and what they eat.

February 1st

Wildlife in Winter

On this winter day we will have some fun with puppets, Freddy the Fox, Bobby Beaver and Minnie the Mouse. We will sing some songs and go for a walk in the forest to visit our forest friends’ habitats.

Sugaring Time on the Farm

Let’s pretend to be a little seed and grow into a big, beautiful maple tree!  We’ll check the sap buckets to see if the sap is running and make maple leaf art. It wouldn’t be sugaring time at the Farm without a tasty treat of ice cream and maple syrup!

March 21st

Birds and People Like Seeds!

We'll learn to sort seeds by size and color, then plant our own small garden to take home with us.  Many of our animal friends like seeds too and we can share our stupendous seeds with them!
